Poetry and fiction enthusiasts are being invited to meet and chat with Northeast writers at Stonehaven Library on Wednesday April 16th in advance of the Heritage Exhibition returning to the town.
This free event, from 2pm-3.30pm, is a chance to hear poets and novelists talking about their creative process and getting their work published.
Penny Frances will talk about her novel ‘Riding the High Road’ with Cheryl Margiotta, and Judith Taylor will talk to Andrew Urquhart about her poetry. Listen to a snatch from the creative writings of both Penny and Judith reading from their own works and enjoy a cuppa and a cake.
Penny writes social realist fiction based on her own experience and the tales of people around her, with short stories published online and in literary magazines. Her debut novel Riding the High Road was published in 2023. Recently relocated from Sheffield to Aberdeenshire, she has made some forays into poetry via Mearns Writers. She blogs at https://pennyfrances.wordpress.com/
Interviewer Cheryl is herself a writer, published in the Bellman and various anthologies and journals; a former television journalist…and a member of Mearns Writers.
Judith Taylor comes from Strathmore but now lives in Aberdeen, where she is a co-ordinator of the monthly Poetry at Books and Beans events. Her poetry has appeared widely in magazines and anthologies: her first collection, Not in Nightingale Country, was published in 2017, her second, Across Your Careful Garden, in 2023, both by Red Squirrel Press. She is a longtime volunteer with North-East literature and art magazine Pushing Out the Boat and is one of the editors of Poetry Scotland.
Judith will be interviewed by Andrew Urquhart, originally from Glasgow. However, he has lived and worked in the Northeast for many years. He enjoys writing poetry and stories in Scots and English. His work has been published in anthologies and magazines such as Lallans, Poetry Scotland, Defenestration and Clarion.
